Today I have a contributed post for you all on why you should travel to New Mexico. Happy reading.
New Mexico is just one of those states that should be at the top of your USA travelling list. Trust us, it’s a pretty underrated travel destination, though it was the filming location of Breaking Bad, which draws in quite a lot of the cult followers of the show. However, New Mexico isn’t just a great place to visit because of its ties to the series, in fact, the list of other reasons to come here is an extensive one. We’ve noted some of the best sights to see in this exciting state, so read on if you want to know why you should get on that flight ASAP.

The Lantern Festival
New Mexico is well-known for its lantern festival, and you just have to see this to believe it. Even watching short videos on the celebrations is enough to induce a sense of awe, so we can only imagine what it would be like to see this in the flesh. The meaning behind this festival seems to be down to personal choice, with some citing a tradition to honor Jesus, and others linking it to Asian culture.

The White Sands National Monument
The natural beauty of the White Sands gypsum dunes is enough to make any of us book a flight to New Mexico right now. Really, we are tempted. These beautiful dunes are (believe it or not) perfectly white, and are home to a whole host of different creatures. We don’t really know how else to sell this to you, but trust us, if you’re travelling to New Mexico, visiting this 275 square mile wonder has to be at the top of your list.

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum
If you’re one of those travellers who always loves to take a trip to the nearest art gallery, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum is certainly worth a visit. Much of her work was inspired by the landscapes of New Mexico, so you will really be able to see what influenced her work, where she loved to paint. Not only is New Mexico home to the best of nature’s wonders, but it is a cultural and artistic hub that you just have to explore.

See some railroad history in Deming
The railroads in the US inspired many with the travel bug back in the 50s and 60s, from authors like Jack Kerouac to famous jazz musicians. Deming was named after the wife of one of the ‘big four’ who actually built the Central Pacific Railroad, which runs through the city. This is certainly worth a visit for lovers of literature and American history, so look into a hotel in Deming, New Mexico and experience the culture on offer.
So, if you’re thinking about visiting New Mexico, there is so much on offer here that goes beyond the cult following of Breaking Bad. From The Lantern Festival to The White Sands National Monument, and right down to The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and the Deming railroads, there really is something here for every type of traveller. Pack your bags, and get on the next flight for the USA trip of a lifetime!
