DIY Beard Balm – Beard Balm Recipe

04.01.19

In an effort to be more environmentally friendly and with my true love in doing DIYs, I have quick and easy DIY beard balm recipe for you all. Gursheel recently ran out of his beard balm (a product he uses daily) and we decided to make some ourselves. We ordered all the ingredients online and the great thing is, a lot of these can be used for future DIYs to come. Homemade face oils, hand creams, body butters are soon going to be on the blog.

We did a lot of research on how to make your own beard balm, and this beard balm recipe is something we created through trial and error. Gursheel was going for a particular type of scent and I think he got what he was going for. You can always scent it however you like, but this basic recipe is great to get you started.

We also wanted to use a combination of different oils for a variety of benefits. Beeswax is highly moisturizing and is what allows the beard to be shaped due to its texture. Shea butter is also a common ingredient in beard balm recipes but also has benefits including anti-inflammatory properties. Jojoba oil is rich in vitamins and minerals that strengthen hair and it can help in preventing hair loss and promote hair thickness. Argan oil is highly moisturizing and also helps in strengthening hair. And finally, Vitamin E has antioxidant properties that again aid in hair strength.

Gursheel has been using the beard balm for a couple of months now and he loves it. He loves the scent and he loves the hold it gives his beard.

I just reused his old beard balm tin and just cleaned it out, heated it up to sterilize it and it was ready to go.

Okay, now on to the DIY beard balm recipe! This makes 1 x 2 ounce tin.

Ingredients – beard balm recipe

0.5 oz Beeswax

0.5 oz Shea Butter

2 ounce aluminum tin

0.5 oz Argan Oil

0.5 oz Jojoba Oil

5 drops Vitamin E Oil

15 drops essential oils – (5 drops each of fir essential oil, pine essential oil and bergamot essential oil)

Directions – beard balm recipe

Using a digital kitchen scale, measure out the beeswax and shea butter.

Melt these two ingredients using a candle warmer for a slow melt. You can also use a microwave or a bowl using the double boiler method if you want to finish faster.

Next measure out the Jojoba oil and the Argan oil and add it to the melted beeswax/shea butter mixture.

Next, drop-wise add the Vitamin E oil as well as the essential oils. The combination of the fir, pine and bergamot essential oils creates a very musky smell. If you want something different, use 15 drops of the essential oils that appeal to you.

Stir the entire oil mixture very well and add it to your 2 ounce aluminum tin.

Label your tin with beard balm and you have yourself a great smelling beard balm that will help shape your beard and keep it moisturized.

Things to buy on Amazon Canada – Amazon Canada Favorites

03.16.19

I love to buy things on Amazon Canada and I love watching peoples favorites videos on YouTube as well. This post is going to be a collection of some of my favorite things to buy on Amazon Canada, some items I bought myself and others that I received as gifts. It’s a long one and I hope you enjoy. I’ve done a post before on Amazon Canada favorites that is pretty popular, so check that out if you’re looking for more inspiration.

Organizing

Cup Holder Trash Can:

I’m sure many of you know by now, but I love organizing. I just completed our under bathroom sink organization, and I was so happy with how it turned out. So, now I need my next project, which is going to be organizing our Jeep. And to get started, I got this trash can cup holder that has been so useful in collected all the garbage in our Jeep. Once I’ve completed the Jeep organization project, I’ll be sure to blog about it, so look out for that soon.

Car Phone Mount Magnetic:

Another purchase I made for our Jeep organization project, are these magnetic car phone mounts. It comes in a pack of two and you just attach it to the car vent. You also get multiple magnetic stickers that you just attach to the back of your phone. The magnet is super strong and I’ve been loving this. It is much more convenient than the suction car mounts, which tend to fall off easily and require a couple of seconds to attach the phone on. The magnet is great because it instantly attaches your phone and you’re ready to go. I love using the car mount on the passenger side to FaceTime my nephew on our ride home from work.

DYMO Black Embossing Label Maker:

If you read the under bathroom sink organization post, you’ll notice I used this embossing label maker. I am seriously in love with it. It is easy to use and I love the look of the black embossed label on clear bins. I even used it to label our spices and who knows when I’ll use it again for another organization project.

Homebi Portable Laptop Desk:

As I sit here working on this blog post on the couch in front of the TV, I am using my portable laptop desk. It is seriously so so useful and it even looks beautiful! You guys all know how much I love beautiful things that are super practical as well. Highly recommend this. You can use it as a laptop desk as you sit on the couch or in your bed. Or even as a breakfast table and treat yourself to some breakfast in bed.

Home

Hot water bottle:

When we went for our Safari in Kenya and stayed in a luxury tent in the middle of Maasai Mara, the staff used to hot hot water bottles in our bed at night it made the bed so warm and relaxing. So, I finally purchased my own hot water bottle and have been keeping it in our bed at night and it is the most amazing thing ever. If you love to keep warm, especially in this crazy winter, you will love it as well.

Heating pad:

Related to the hot water bottle, I also purchased this electric heating pad that I’ve been using to place on sore muscles. My neck has been hurting lately and the heating pad is great to relax the sore muscles. This will also be great for cramps during my period.

Reusable Stainless Steel Straws:

I’m trying to be more aware of the waste I create and to minimize wherever I can. I know plastic straws are absolutely terrible for the environment, so I bought these reusable stainless steel straws and they have been super useful. I use it to drink my green juice every morning (read my morning routine here) and use the straw cleaner that came with it to keep it clean.

Amazon Fire TV Stick:

So, we just canceled our Netflix subscription! I know! But there was nothing to watch on it and they are increasing the price again, so we decided to cancel it for now and take advantage of our Amazon Prime subscription. There are so many cool shows and movies on it and we have been loving watching The Man in the High Castle. So, we bought the Amazon Fire TV Stick to make it easy to watch on the TV, without having to attach the laptop to the TV. It’s super convenient and worth it!

Health/Wellness

Charcoal Teeth Whitening Powder:

Since this charcoal toothpaste was trending everywhere online, I had to try it for myself. So I bought it and many of you messaged me saying how much you love it and the difference you see from using it. It is super messy to use, but I have started using it in the evenings every other day and I definitely do see a difference in the whiteness of my teeth.

Dry Brushing Body Brush:

I’ve been wanting to start dry brushing for a while since I hear there are so many health benefits, especially detoxifying your skin. So, I finally bought one and have been dry brushing once every other day. I thought it would hurt, since the bristles can be a bit harsh, but I didn’t feel any pain at all. I have not noticed a difference in my skin as of yet, but I will update you once I have something to share.

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay:

This is another product that a lot of people talk about so I went for it and I LOVE it! I think this product is amazing and I see a big difference in my skin once I use it. It is a clay powder, and you just add water and apply it to your skin for 20 minutes. I have shared my skin care routine before and how I love to use masks. Well, this one is definitely my favorite and here to stay. Also, I bought a large size, and it is not going to finish anytime soon. Also, it doesn’t expire! Woohoo!

And that’s all for my for my current favorite things to buy on Amazon Canada. I hope you all find this post useful and let me know if you try any of these products out (If you havn’t already). I’m always buy things from Amazon and I can’t wait to share more of my purchases in the future šŸ™‚

Airplane Friendly Vegan Bento Box – Airplane Snacks

03.10.19

If you’re headed off on your next adventure and are wondering what food to bring with you on the plane, well this post for vegan airplane snacks may be for you!

Airplane Friendly Vegan Bento Box

Although there are some airlines that provide vegan and vegetarian meals, they are often not very appealing. Airports also have a lot of options for food, but either they are expensive or the shop isn’t open when you’re at the airport. That’s why it is super convenient if you bring your own food with you on your flight. This vegan friendly airplane snacks bento box will keep you full and satisfied on your next flight.

Airplane Friendly Vegan Bento Box

The main is a vegan black rice salad with crispy tofu. This is packed with flavour, healthy goodness and is quite filling. The recipe is from one of my favorite vegan cookbooks, but there is a similar recipe found here. This is the perfect to go meal since all you need is a spoon or fork to eat it, is super healthy and can fill you up for a while.

Airplane Friendly Vegan Bento Box

Hummus and veggies is always the perfect snack on the go. We packed the bento box with garlic hummus and sliced up some cucumber, bell pepper and baby carrots. Vegetables are filled with water so this snack will also keep you hydrated on the plane.

Airplane Friendly Vegan Bento Box

You always need a sweet treat in a bento box, so we decided to go with this secret ingredient chocolate pudding. And the secret ingredient: sweet potato! This pudding is so delicious and you will never guess that it’s vegan and that it contains sweet potato. Although this recipe is from Angela Liddon’s Oh She Glows Cookbook, it has also been shared by her on the Vancouver Sun, you can check out the recipe here: Secret Ingredient Chocolate Pudding. This treat is the perfect indulgence. Creamy, chocolaty and quite healthy with the sweet potato and other healthy ingredients.

Airplane Friendly Vegan Bento Box

Finally, you can easily include a banana in your airplane snacks bag. It comes pre packaged and can quickly satisfy a craving. Last, but not least, make sure you include an empty water bottle. I love my S’well bottle and I like to fill it up with water once I have passed security. I either find a water fountain at the airport or ask the airplane hostess to fill it up for me on the plane.

Airplane Friendly Vegan Bento Box

And there you have it: the perfect vegan bento box with friendly airplane snacks. I’m heading on a trip in a couple of months and this is going to be my go to for airplane snacks to take along with me. I can’t wait to get on the airplane and munch on these goodies.
