My Favourite Smoothie – Orgain Protein Powder Smoothie

10.01.17

Today I will share with you my favourite smoothie recipe – the Orgain Protein Powder Smoothie recipe. It is so delicious and creamy and healthy and once you start making this, you will never go back!

A few years ago, when I was vegan and actually spending quite a bit of time working out, I was looking for Vegan Protein Powders to incorporate into my diet. I would check out some of my favourite stores like Whole Foods and buy any vegan protein powder that looked good and test it out. I think I wasted a lot of money trying new protein powders and not liking any. At GNC, you can return your protein powder if you don’t like it. However, I hadn’t heard of GNC back then and stuck to my favourite health food stores.

One day, at London Drugs, I came across another vegan protein powder brand called Orgain and purchased it, with no real hopes it would be good and looking forward to another disappointing purchase.

However, it surprised me and I was not disappointed!

It was so delicious. I had purchased the chocolate flavour and it was amazing! Since that day, I stuck with the Orgain Protein Powder and continued purchasing it. However, eventually London Drugs stopped carrying it, but thankfully, Costco in the States carried it, so my mom would grab me some when she went for her grocery runs.

This continued, until I moved to Toronto.

No stores carry Orgain protein powder here, or they didn’t when I moved back in 2016. And the other big disappointment was I couldn’t even grab some quickly from the States since the US border is a 2-3 hour drive from our home.

Anyways, my mom brought me a few tubs of Orgain protein powder when she visited and it is honestly the best gift ever. But eventually we will run out and will need to buy some online! I found LuckyVitamin to have the lowest price online.

Currently, as of September 2017, we have seen the Vanilla flavoured Orgain Protein Powder at the two Costco locations near our house! So if you live in Brampton, Vaughn or Mississauga, check out the closet Costco and you will find some right now! Hurry, before my sister in law buys all the tubs 😛 The vanilla flavour is her personal favourite.

Now on to the recipe for my favourite Orgain Protein Powder Smoothie:

3 Free Grocery Shopping Apps That Save You Money in Canada

09.25.17

Happy Monday everyone! I’m back this week with my favourite free grocery shopping apps that save you money in Canada!

A couple of years ago, for my older sisters baby shower we had the guests play The Amazing Race. And one of the stops in the race was a Price Is Right station, where the teams had to guess the price of common household items. I was designated the task to go and buy some items, so I went to the store closest to my home (Save on Foods) and bought whatever I thought looked good.

As I was watching people play the game, I noticed they were guessing completely wrong. Their guesses were a lot less than the price I paid! I had overpaid for most of the items!  This was because I didn’t know what a good price for an item was. And since most of my sisters friends were either married and/or moms, they did the shopping for their families and they knew what a good price for things was.

Now a couple years later, I am also married and have started grocery shopping for our family. And since I love saving money, I have figured out a system that allows the grocery shopping experience to be efficient, fun and affordable! It’s super easy and once you get the hang of it, you’re going to enjoy grocery shopping! And it’s all based on 3 free grocery shopping apps that save you money!

Using these grocery shopping apps is an easy way to save money on groceries and you can do it without too much time or effort!

I tried out a few grocery shopping apps to see what worked for me and the ones mentioned below are the ones I think are the best and they’re all free! I go into detail about my favorite grocery shopping apps and a grocery rebate app, so you can save during and after you shop!

MY FAVOURITE GROCERY SHOPPING APPS FOR WEEKLY FLYERS

FLIPP

Okay guys this app is seriously the best! What it is, is a collection of the flyers of the week along with coupons where you can just search for an item and all the prices at every store will pop up. You can even input your shopping list on this app. Even more amazing is that you can take a picture of your list and the app will read the list and input the list automatically! This is a cool little trick I just learned!

Anyways, what works the best for me, is when I find the cheapest price for the item on my grocery list, I take a screenshot! You definitely don’t need to do this, but this is what I find best works for me. There are a couple of grocery stores that do price matching, but we usually go to Walmart and Chalo Freshco. The produce at Freshco is seriously the best! Walmart, not so much, but it tends to have more items that we need.

Okay, so once I’ve gone through my entire grocery list and taken screenshots of the cheapest items that I will be price matching, I move onto my next favourite grocery shopping app:

COUPGON

Th Coupgon grocery shopping app only works for select stores (like Freshco, Save on Foods, some Superstores, etc.) so just check to see if there is a store near you!

This app is great because every week new items get added, a lot being seasonal produce and things people often purchase anyways. You just click on the items that you want and when you are at the cash register, you just click redeem now and show the cashier. It basically works like a coupon and the price of the item mentioned will be deducted from your total price.

I just take a look at what items also have coupons, and just clip them on the app and make a note on my grocery list to make sure I don’t forget to show the cashier.

GROCERY SHOPPING APP FOR REBATES

CHECKOUT 51

The final app that I use is the Checkout 51 app which is a cash back app, and therefore, you don’t see the actual savings from it on your receipt. You just get a cheque mailed to you once you have reached 20 dollars in cash back.

How Checkout 51 works is every Thursday, a new list of items get added to the app and if you purchase any item on the list, you just take a picture of your receipt and scan the barcode of the product and money will automatically get added to your account.

This app mostly works for processed foods, but every so often produce also gets added to it. One of my favourite products, Silk Almond milk, is currently on the app with a 1 dollar cash back. Since Silk milk is something I purchase on a weekly bases, it’s great to get a dollar back in my pocket!

So, this post is all about saving money on groceries and doesn’t talk about keeping an organized pantry, fridge or freezer. I do have a pantry organization post which is super easy and fun to set up, and I would love to do a fridge and freezer organization post as well!

All 3 of these grocery shopping apps are great and are so easy and fun to use. The money we save from grocery shopping goes towards our weekly Starbucks fund! Anyone else a fan of the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte? I just introduced Gursheel to it and he loves it! Time of the frappuccino as ended, time for the PSL has arrived!

Do you guys use any grocery shopping app to save you money? Comment below!

My TIFF Experience – TIFF 2017 Review

09.16.17

Hey guys! I just watched my very first TIFF movie and I’m here to tell you all about my TIFF experience. I actually had a really good time but there are definitely things I learned that I thought I would share with you all today.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is the world’s largest publicly attended film festivals since anyone can attend and the tickets are reasonably priced – although I disagree (more about that later). At the festival, the public can attend lectures, discussions, workshops and most importantly screenings of movies that have yet to come out! TIFF starts after the labour day weekend and runs for 11 days. A lot of celebrities do come out to the festival as well so there is a chance you can meet your favourite celebrity. After you watch a movie at TIFF, you can vote for the People’s Choice Award. This award has predicted some Oscar winners in the past for movies like Slumdog Millionaire, La La Land, Silver Linings Playbook, among others, making it another reason for being super popular.

The movie that we chose to watch was The Mountain Between Us staring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba. We originally wanted to watch Victoria and Abdul however, the date we wanted to watch it was the premiere and tickets were $59/person! I can’t justify spending that much on a movie when I know I can watch it for 5 bucks on Tuesday night (if it comes out)! So, I tried finding a movie that looked good but was also a reasonable price. Most movies at TIFF have 3-4 different screening times, however, the ones on the weekend cost $35-$59, whereas the ones on weekends cost $18. So, we watched it on a weekday for $18/ticket.

We watched the movie at The Princess of Wales, although different movies play at different venues all around Toronto. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, although the people I went with would disagree. I enjoyed it so much, that I actually voted for it for the People’s Choice Award. So, if it wins, and you guys watch it and don’t enjoy it, you may have me to blame! Hehe!

Anyways, after the movie, we walked around a bit and saw red carpets at several places, and were pretty close to see Halle Berry! There are different sponsors of TIFF, and we entered to win gas by Acura, had some lemonade from Pure Leaf Canada, and also took some pictures on these swings decorated with fresh flowers.

To make my TIFF experience oh so special, I was hoping to run into Idris Elba. Since another reason I chose the movie was because I really do like him, especially in the show Luther! I didn’t 🙁 OH WELL, there is always next year!

We went for dinner after at the District Eatery, a place with a ton of vegan options, although I didn’t enjoy what I ordered (the nachos) and went for dessert at this ice cream place called Sweet Jesus which was SO GOOD! Highly recommend!

Overall, I really did enjoy my TIFF experience! It was a fun day 🙂
